ENG-TECH is seeking a junior Engineer in Training with a background or interest in water resources for a full-time, permanent position. Must be able to become registered with EGM or willing to pursue registration with EGM.

General Job Description:

Site investigations and related field work, including, but not exclusive to, surveying, soil sampling, site inspections.

Studies and reports with respect to hydraulic, flood protection, and drainage.

Producing soil logs, hydraulic models, and AutoCAD drawings, and reports as required.

Assisting engineers and EITs with project work as needed.

Responsibilities Perform geotechnical analysis and study for quality assessment/quality control.

Plan and conduct geotechnical exploration effectively. Perform field inspections and investigations for construction projects.

Analyze geotechnical findings, perform appropriate calculations and prepare reports.

Develop land drainage and lot grading plans.

Develop proposals and determine cost and schedule for investigations.

Interact with customers and team members to complete the assigned project on-time.

Perform basic office administration tasks when needed.

Assist senior engineering staff in design and evaluation of construction projects.

Develop design drawings and specifications for construction projects.

Review geotechnical designs developed by outside consultants.

Review construction design proposals and assess geotechnical aspects.

ENGINEERING STUDENT COOP TERM

Civil Engineering student required immediately for office and fieldwork. Some of the work will be in Winnipeg, but students may be working out of town for extended periods. When working out of town, accommodations and a food allowance will be provided. A student with a background and/or interest in Water Resources is preferred as you may be assigned to a Water Resources project, but a background/interest in geotechnical or environmental engineering will also be helpful for the position. The student will be supervised by P.Eng. Training will be provided.

Duties may include:

Site investigations and related field work, including, but not exclusive to, surveying, soil sampling, pile inspections and site inspections.
Studies and reports with respect to hydraulic, flood protection, and drainage.
Producing soil logs, hydraulic models, and AutoCAD drawings, and reports as required.
Assisting engineers and EITs with project work as needed.
Assisting with the preparation of reports.
Preparation of daily field reports when assigned to field inspection work.
Position could be extended for fall term, depending on candidate availability and project needs.

Job Requirements:

Civil Engineering student.
Computer literate, familiar with office computer applications, basic proficiency with AutoCAD.
Excellent oral and written communication skills
Experience with laboratory & field testing of soils, construction industry an asset.
Valid class 5 driver’s license is a must, travel throughout the city and province will be required, no applicant without a valid driver’s license will be interviewed.

Overtime may be required.

Good written, oral and computer communication.
Well organized.
Ability to multi-task and manage work on several projects at the same time.
Comfortable with working in a fast-paced environment.

ENGINEERING DRAFTING TECHNOLOGIST OR TECHNICIAN

ENG-TECH is seeking a full-time Engineering Drafting Technologist or Technician for a position that will involve significant drafting, but also other duties as required in a busy geotechnical and environmental engineering and materials testing firm.

Position Requirements

Applicants should have 2 or more years of experience in drafting.  Experience in surveying, concrete and soils testing, and CCIL and/or ACI certification are assets.  Applicants should hold a valid Class 5 driver’s license. Applicants must be able to interpret technical procedures and specifications, and prepare technical reports. Additionally, applicants must be detail oriented, demonstrate proficiency with computer software, possess critical thinking skills and have the ability to communicate complex ideas clearly and simply, both orally and in writing.  Previous experience in the construction industry is desirable.

 Duties 

  • Producing CAD drawings for surveys and inspections, as well as assisting engineering staff with preparing their drawings,
  • Develop and prepare engineering designs and drawings from preliminary concepts, sketches, engineering calculations, specification sheets and other data,
  • Review project specifications, analyze, document and report testing and/or inspection results,
  • Surveying,
  • Assisting or conducting fieldwork under the supervision of a supervising P.Eng., and E.I.T.

Position Requirements

  • Minimum of 2 years education in Engineering Technology or equivalent experience.
  • Willing to work on-site for extended periods, as required.
